Owner Jabelle, Schiedam. Jacques Tange (1960, Vlissingen, The Netherlands) has been a professional artist since graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam in 1984. In 2005–2006 he was awarded the title “Artist of the Year” in the Netherlands. Initially inspired by the symbolism and storytelling of medieval illuminated manuscripts, Tange’s work has evolved into a distinctive contemporary figurative style exploring human relationships and the role of humanity in the modern world. Women play a central role in his paintings. Tange portrays them as strong, sensual, and independent figures, celebrating their power and their essential place in the balance of life. Another recurring theme is the fragile relationship between humanity and nature. His work reflects concern for the Earth and the way modern society has distanced itself from the natural world. Despite these serious themes, Tange’s paintings always contain elements of hope: a path toward freedom, a glimpse of open sky, or symbols of love and possibility. Through expressive colors and poetic imagery, he creates visual narratives that invite viewers to reflect on the human condition.
