ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This is an oli painting of the 500 year old Holm Oak, which commands its space in Fulham Palace gardens. I was struck by its undulating root system which sprawls out like hands, gripping the earth beneath it. Its span searches outwards into the void, searching into the space around it.

London based artist working in 2D. My current work celebrates the flow and journey of a trees growth, each branch has a limitless choice of direction. There are also the urban trees, who's roots and boughs are restricted yet still push forth, slowly emerging from the concrete or pavement stones. I follow the undulating forms and varied colours, shapes and textures of the subject, each one I paint has its own character that directs the palette. The finished form of the tree provoke an inspired background composition to ignite its presence, often stark or flat, complementing the vigour of the subject. Along with the tree paintings I enjoy more figurative drawing, which is sometimes elevated to paintings, these come from concepts or ideas which interest me at the time of conception, conundrums or situations experienced or discussed.
