ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The greatest interest in the unicorns falls in the Middle Ages. It was believed that its horn has the magical power to clean poisons and heal diseases, which caused unicorn huntings were organized in the Middle Ages. It was also believed that this animal could only be tamed by a virgin, which popularized the image of this creature as an allegory of Christ, and the virgin became a symbol of the Virgin Mary. The unicorn motif was used in many works of Christian sacred art in the Middle Ages. Although, according to modern knowledge and science, it is already known that this animal does not exist, but the desire to meet a unicorn is still alive.
