The Medusa (or rather Medusa, al-Greek. Μέδουσα "guardian, Protectress, Queen") is the most famous of the three sisters of the Gorgon, a monster with a female face and snakes instead of hair [1]. Her look turned a person into stone. She was killed by Perseus. Mentioned in the Odyssey (XI, 634).The youngest daughter of the marine old man Fork and Keto (according to another version, the daughter of the Gorgon[3]). The only mortal of the Gorgon. On later version of the myth described by Ovid in the Metamorphoses, Medusa was a girl with beautiful hair. The God Poseidon, who turned into a bird[4], captured by the Medusa in the temple of Athena, where Medusa had gone to seek protection from persecution of Poseidon. Athena not only helped her but also made her hair in Hydra[5].One of the tasks given to Perseus by king Polydectes, was the killing of the Gorgon Medusa. To cope with the monster the hero helped the gods Athena and Hermes. Their advice before you go into battle, he visited the prophetic old women — sisters gry, (which were also Forcedly, the Gorgon sisters) who had three one eye and one tooth. Cunning Perseus stole their tooth and eye, and returned only in exchange for winged sandals, a magic bag and a cap of invisibility from Hades. Grayi showed Perseus the way to the Gorgon. Hermes gave him a sharp curved knife. Armed with this gift, Perseus came to the Gorgon. Once in the air on winged sandals, he was able to cut off the head of Medusa death, one of the three Gorgon sisters, looking in the reflection on the polished copper shield Athens because the gaze of Medusa turned all life into stone. From Medusa's sisters, Perseus fled with the cap of darkness, hiding the trophy in his bag.During this fight Medusa was pregnant by Poseidon. From the decapitated body of Medusa with a stream of blood came from her children of Poseidon — giant Chrysaor (father of Geryon Geryon was three-bodied) and the winged horse Pegasus. Blood drops falling in the Sands of Libya, a poisonous snake came and destroyed it all live (on Lucan, it was the so-called Libyan snakes[7]: ASP, amfisbena, ammonit and Basilisk). Local legend says that from the stream of blood spilled into the ocean, corals appeared. Athena gave Asclepius the blood flowed from the veins of the Gorgon Medusa. The blood that flowed from the left side, carried the death, but the right — of Asclepius used to save lives. According to another version, Medusa was born Gaia and Athena killed during gigantomachia[8]. According to Euhemerus, she was killed by Athena[9]. In imitation of stings Gorgon Athena invented the double aulos[10]. It is believed that the myth of the Gorgon Medusa have communication with the Scythian cult of the goddess zmeenogoy — the progenitor of Tabiti, evidence of the existence of which are mentioned in ancient sources and archaeological findings of images. In this Hellenized version of "Medusa" from Hercules gave rise to the Scythian people.Medusa's Head And in severed condition, the opinion of the head of the Gorgon retained the ability to turn people to stone. Perseus used the head of Medusa in a fight with Keto (Keith) — dragon sea monster (and the mother of the Gorgons), which was sent by Poseidon to ravage Ethiopia. Showing the face of Medusa Keto, Perseus turned it to stone and rescued Andromeda, the king's daughter who was destined to be sacrificed Keto. Before that, he was turned into a stone of the Titan Atlas supporting the firmament near the island of Gorgon, and it turned into the Atlas mountain in Morocco. Later Perseus in the same manner turned to stone the king of Polident and his minions chasing Danae, mother of Perseus. Then Medusa's head was placed on the aegis of Athena ("Athena the chest"[11]) — in art this head was taken to represent the armor on the shoulder of the goddess or under the collarbone on her chest. According to Pausanias, her head laying in the ground near the square of Argos[12]. Ciclopi produced the head of Medusa marble and installed at the temple of Kapisa in Argos[13].
