A shrimp boat slips out to sea from a quiet inlet, its form steady against the tide. On the beach, a lone crab pauses near the water’s edge beneath a soft gray sky. Rooted in the artist’s love for the Lowcountry, its fishing traditions, and the rhythms of the ocean, the scene offers a quiet tribute ...

Wilfred Spoon Color is my passion; it’s the cornerstone of my creative process. To start, I tend to break the glaring white canvas by laying down two harmonious color fields, transforming that blank surface into an open dialogue. My creative journey is marked by internal conflict and doubt, but I’ve learned to embrace uncertainty — that’s often where inspiration strikes. While frustrating, mistakes are invaluable; they reveal directions I might not have considered. Through it all, I hold onto the child within me — the curiosity that first sparked my love for art, and the magic of capturing an image or idea on an empty two dimensional surface. Talent alone isn’t enough; it’s the ongoing work, persistence, and commitment to learning that shape my craft. I juggle multiple projects at once, allowing the oil paint to cure between sessions. This keeps my mind fresh and pushes me to approach each piece from new angles. My work explores landscapes, wildlife, and still lifes, with a focus on joy, aesthetics, and an element of surprise. My goal is to create art that invites others to pause, reflect, and discover beauty in unexpected ways.
