I feel that with the act of painting we can sensitize the object.
The painting keeps me awake, forces me to be coherent and never stop looking through the mirror. Thanks to her, I have learned that in addition to being constant you have to leave space and time for things to happen and that mistakes are inevitable and some very valuable: they do not make a picture or a life flat.
I work with virgin wax as an essential element of the work due to the great material presence it has, for the transparency with which I can play, for its warmth and increasingly for being a pure natural product.
The encaustic technique, which is formulated and worked hot, mixing in different proportions virgin wax, Damar resin and linseed oil, has the charm of laboratory, alchemy, because as you do the mixture, it can be a ductile and resistant medium with which work or crackle and not hold on to the fabric.
In my work the technique of encaustic works together with oil and other procedures.
This painting represents de line of a life with his own rhythms, ups and downs and scars.
It can be placed horizontally or vertically

In this artwork, the canvas is stapled by me on a wood embroidery frame with a DM panel because I need a hard surface to be able to engrave the drawing lines on the wax.

About The Artwork

I feel that with the act of painting we can sensitize the object. The painting keeps me awake, forces me to be coherent and never stop looking through the mirror. Thanks to her, I have learned that in addition to being constant you have to leave space and time for things to happen and that mistakes are inevitable and some very valuable: they do not make a picture or a life flat. Cristina Barrera operates from her atelier in Guadalajara, Spain. It is here where she grew up and knew since she was a child that she wanted to dedicate herself to Art. He studied Fine Art at the Madrid University and at the Fine Art University of Castilla la Mancha where he graduated. He lived in Paris, Milan and Tokyo. Japanese culture marked him deeply. After graduating, he devoted himself fully to painting, making multiple solo and group exhibitions. When she discovered the encaustic (virgin wax with pigments and natural resin of Damar, worked in hot way), he fell in love with this technique and for 20 years he has been working with it, developing it and eventually creating his own technique with the mixture of this and other means like oil colours. "About painting, I always found it attractive the possibility of being able to make a space of your own full of energy by combining simple things likes a piece of fabric, pigments and glue. I work with virgin wax. It is an essential element of my work because of its transparency and warmness. I use the encaustic technique (a painting technique that uses warm wax and pigments), others with oil and other procedures." About the paintings: "Plaits" : Flowers and plaits are used as a symbol for the sentiment of intertwining within everything that exists. "Strings and spiders": necklaces and spider webs are painted so that when we look at their weave we can decrease our hurry and rest from our selves. "Volcanoes and flowers": gestation, change, latent possibilities.
