The Obstacle is the Way Painting

The obstacle is the way. Made during a year spent drawing with ink, allowing the medium to guide the work - except for this painting. This was the result of a chance encounter between a painting and designs on the wall that the painting hung on. The painting included a radiating band of floating shapes and was the development of a drawing made in a game of visual consequences played with a friend while we were students at Brighton Polytechnic. (I would never have invented the floating shapes). And the wall is in my living room, painted with concentric squares that probably came from designs for the interior of the Nostromo, the spaceship from Ridley Scott's, Alien. It says that, with a subtle shift in perception, the obstacle is the way.
