About The Artwork
I painted this work based on a cafe in Brooklyn that is placed between where I stayed in Williamsburg and Navy Yard where I showed my work and walked each day for about 1.5 miles. I'd stop here and get coffee in the mornings before attending the show, and was drawn in by the amazingly preserved old tile, the way the light played on all the surfaces, and the sense of calm and repose produced in the space. It is an old historic building with beautifully preserved original features that also lend themselves to a contemporary coffee space. I like to bring people into the atmosphere and feeling of the places that I paint, and this subject gave me the perfect opportunity to produce an environment flooded with warm light and the opportunity to pause and reflect.
