Inspired by Chinese Guardian Lions statues (shíshī). Usually these Lions are made of stone and should always be displayed in pairs. This has to do with harmony and completeness, or to keep balance between the Yin and Yang. This pair which are placed inside or outside a building are meant to protect home or workplace from negative energy. It is said these guardian lions will stop anyone with malicious intensions from entering your home. The female Guardian lion is shown with one paw on a cub. She protects everything inside the home or house. The female is the one who also protects the people who reside or work in the house. She is the Yin. The male Guardian Lion can be recognized as the one resting his paw on the ball which may represent the world. The male is Yang. He protects everything outside. This artwork is consist of : 2 separate pieces, where each piece was done with watercolor and pen on A2 size paper (42W x 59.4H)cm, combining the splatter and crosshatch techniques. Hi! I'm Edwin Darwin, a self taught artist who was born and raised in Indonesia. I have felt that creativity has always been part of my life. In my later years this creativity expanded and i studied architectural design, interior design, graphic design, floral art, yoga, and dance. And as my fascination and passion for art continued to grow, it led me to become almost completely self-taught in different mediums by absorbing what i could from books and informal courses but mainly it has been trial and error. My intimate connection with each of my artworks has educated me how to express my inner-self. It is my lifelong commitment to continuously develop my skills as an artist and to encourage and evoke positivity to those that observe my work.
