The Sound of Engines Painting

This painting was commissioned by Sir Matthew Bourne and exhibited alongside his production of The Red Shoes at Sadler’s Wells Theatre, London. It was directly inspired by my attendance of rehearsals for the production, as well The Red Shoes as a show and classic film that inspired. I wanted to capture the feeling that, surrounding the central character and star Victoria Page, there’s this huge machine whirring around her…the lights, the sets, the costumes - all the dozens and dozens of people relying on her performance.
