The South Downs Painting

Ron Dellar is a very English artist. Born in Camberwell in 1930, he moved to Penge at the outset of the Second World War and has subsequently spent much of his life in small villages in Kent and Sussex. Now aged 86, he lives in Angmering, near the South Downs, and his recent work is an attempt to capture and reflect the deep - almost mystical - connection he feels with the ancient landscapes around him. His paintings capture the strangeness and stillness of his surroundings, and manage to be renderings of both the physical and his own interior worlds.
