About The Artwork
I began this painting the night before the Santa Rosa Firestorms. It could be intuition that I tapped into. It could be coincidence. But the energy of this painting captures what we all experienced the following few days. As I continued to paint this piece in the months following the fires, I noticed the process of painting it became a form of therapy for me to cope with the post traumatic stress that ensued. I love the pattern and the color in this painting. When I look at it now, I no longer flinch from the memories. The process of painting the embers in a firestorm flurry have helped me to gain a sense of release and subsequent distance and detachment.

Born in Mexico City and raised in Southern California, Jennifer Lynne Gildred grew up to have a deep appreciation for the ocean, making art, and spending as much time in the natural world as she could. In 1986, she attended The SCAD Arts program in France, then under the Cleveland Institute of Art. She then went on to receive her Bachelor of Art in Fine Art from The University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and a Master of Art in Psychology/Art Therapy from Sonoma State University. Gildred has traveled around the world and has gained a broad perspective of the human palette. She has shown her work in various locations globally, but primarily in California. A retired art therapist, she can be found painting in her home art studio in Sonoma County, CA.
