"The Thinker" Painting

This painting is a part of a new a project dedicated to symbols and their power of influence. I strive to transfer fascination of the primitive and of the mystery of mysticism in my work. I like to put together the unspoken with the strength of pictogram, therefore paintings gained some duality: they contain spaciousness and depth alongside flat, purposely unfinished forms of shellfish and fossils. Strong red accents break the brown, green and everything enveloping black. This is a story about the mystery of existence. Story about the road we travel, certain stages when we look for guidance and clues, signs that we intuitively follow – especially in times of change and inner transformation. As far as the animal symbology goes, Crab is connected to the moon. It represents rebirth and renewal. Additionally, its moon connection, ties it with the female energy: the moon is a motherly Guide for the Crab, while it is being immersed within the depths of a mysterious ocean. Physical attributes of the Crab also indicate its deeper meaning: its hard shell symbolizes protection, sharp claws allows for defense when attacked. In China it is a symbol of good fortune, vitality and male potency. It symbolizes loyalty, protection, rebirth and trust. It is also a symbol of wealth and regeneration thanks to its ability to rid off the old and acquiring new shell. It is believed in Japan, Crabs are the Spirits of descended warriors of the Heike tribe.
