The View From the Grove is painted with gouche paints mixed by the artist using artist-grade pigments. The painting surface is a heavy 300gsm paper mounted with archival acrylic medium to birch plywood. The artist mounts the paper to plywood to avoid paper rippling. The result is a sturdy, easy to frame painting mount built to last. My artwork is inspired by Celtic history, art and culture. The historical texts of Peter Berresford Ellis and others have inspired these organic images. The compositions are a reflection of my understanding of the natural world. The forms take shape and grow into all sorts of natural-looking objects and landscape features. The guiding working principle of my artwork is to experience Zen and achieve balance. The end result is always a chaotic, yet balanced image that mirrors the visual complexity of the natural world. I find it rewarding that the images seem to share the "DNA" of Celtic art works from so long ago. The line work and colors I've discovered are like jewels wrapped in the fantastic, swirling aesthetic of traditional Celtic art.

My art works are products of the media I ingest. I think of the information I absorb as fodder for imagination. The richer the information, the more complex the results. The most intriguing aspect of the creative process is the formation of ideas. I believe in part it is our responsibility to seek out quality information for a healthy imagination, but I also believe our intentions are equally important. Our intentions invite the Muse. They color and shape her guidance. "If a man comes to the door of poetry untouched by the madness of the Muses, believing that technique alone will make him a good poet, he and his sane compositions never reach perfection, but are utterly eclipsed by the performances of the inspired madman." - Socrates (399 BC, Classical Athens) FROCK GALLERY
