ABOUT THE ARTWORK
My work has always been representational, but over the last 30 years I have tried to focus on unusual still life arrangements with exaggerated, highly-colored theatrical lighting. Using a combination of antique toys and tools as my subject, I try to create convincing representations while allowing the paint itself – and the marks I make with it – to remain visible and obvious. Rather than impose a narrative of my own, the objects and imagery provide enough ambiguity to allow the viewer to interpret their meaning in a way that remains personal to them.
