This image depicts the celebration of a first Communion, where kids perform and sign the Catholic ritual. The are participating for the first time in the Sacrament of Eucharist ( ritual where the bread and wine are ingested representing the flesh and blood of Christ ). As a kid I took my first communion enthusiastically as every other kid. Although is a celebration day, kids don’t realize what Eucharist represents. They just have fun and celebrate a day that will bring them a lot of presents and big attention from family and friends. This painting is inspired in my own first Communion pictures but I depicted the kids in an imaginary situation, where the kids could turn their boring Communion reality into something much more interesting. An adventure at their own choice, as in a kids action movie like The Goonies. Who can be so serious, so committed…at this young age!? Well, I wasn’t and neither my good fellas. We just wanted to play, we wanted to scape that word ritual where our parents and the community drove us to be.
