Theatre of Marcellus Painting

My paintings are of buildings and landscapes, in the tradition of the travelling artists of the Grand Tour. For 30 years I have illustrated the "Invitation to Tuscany" brochure, a catalogue of Villas for rent in Tuscany. I prefer to work on site, painting mainly in watercolours and in one, swift sitting, often adding notes about the building or the situation to each painting. My works have been exhibited in London, Rome, Naples and Florence, and have been bought in Europe, Australia and the US. At the moment I'm working on a series of paintings of North London, mainly High Barnet where I now live. Commissions are also current on places and houses in Tuscany, where I grew up, as well as in Provence and on the Ile de Re. I was a Rome Scholar at the British School in Rome, and have an MA in architecture from Cambridge University and a post-graduate diploma in architecture from Sheffield University.
