(SOLD) The painting is signed on the back & comes with a signed and dated certificate of authenticity. This painting is part of Arietta's ongoing series “Finding Closeness”, through which she is interested in capturing the intangible idea of human intimacy. Understanding intimacy as a word loaded with unique meaning for each individual, Arietta’s definition of the word is a broad one, focusing mostly on this feeling of comfort and deep-rooted warmth that radiate off of intimate moments. The focus of the paintings in this series is to recreate fleeting moments of closeness suspended in time, whilst simultaneously seeking to explore the often destructive relationship between humanity and the natural world through layered backgrounds. As the backgrounds are overcome by scenes of closeness we are reminded of the more positive aspects of humanity. Yet, some texture remains in the paint, some words can still be deciphered; the scars of the world are ever present, they must not be forgotten, but they must also not distract from the human ability to come together, to display this intimacy, whether it is through interaction with peers, objects, or other creatures.

b. 1993. Athens, Greece. Arietta Chandris is a multidisciplinary artist based in the UK who through her work seeks to invite viewers to contemplate the intricate ties that bind us to the world around us, fostering a deeper understanding of our shared existence within the natural landscape. Drawing inspiration from a broad range of sources including symbolism, mythology and an exploration of cultural narratives, Arietta’s work is a profound study of the dynamic relationships between people and the natural world, reflecting her own beliefs that while the two are intrinsically and obviously intertwined, there also appears to be a growing disconnect in how people exist within the natural environment. Arietta works primarily in oils, however her creative process is enriched by keeping detailed sketchbooks, research and experimentation with a diverse range of mediums including printmaking, embroidery and digital drawing. Engaging with a variety of creative methods serves to expand Arietta’s artistic vocabulary, something that she views as a critical component in encouraging creative growth. The storytelling aspect of each piece is paramount to Arietta. Her approach is often intuitive and methodical in equal measure. With each idea, Arietta first explores a concept on instinct before diving into further research. This in turn fosters a back-and-forth dynamic between creating and researching that allows the narrative of each artwork to evolve thoughtfully and organically. As such, Arietta often likens the process of creating to having an open conversation with her ideas, research and materials until every detail falls into place. Arietta holds a BSc in Anthropology from University College London and an MA in Arts and Cultural Management from King’s College London (2015-17). She has also completed short courses in painting, art history and art writing at Central Saint Martins (2014, 2015) and Sotheby’s Institute (2018). Arietta’s work has been exhibited in London and internationally, and has been featured in print and digital publications including BHMAgazino (2019, 2020) and Vanity Fair (2022). Alongside her practice Arietta has completed a number of commissions for private clients, and most recently has been teaching workshops exploring the process of creating art as a form of wellbeing. Arietta is currently a member of Saloon London, a network of woman identifying professionals in the arts with global reach.
