ABOUT THE ARTWORK

For many years I travelled to the Shetland Islands to paint. I always worked outside in the landscape. The island offers wonderful light for painting, and I would set up the easel depending on the wind and weather. This picture was painted on a cloudy day in July, in a sheltered spot in the rocks. I work quickly and expressively with brush and oil paint to capture the mood of the moment. I use impressionistic lighting. The picture is framed in light lime wood. A steel wire provides a suspension. The signature is on the front.

Ute Meyer, born December 1957 visual artist since 1999 studio in Flensburg "Painting is an expression of my joy of life and my curiosity to discover." My paintings are a reflection of my vibrant zest for life and my ever-present curiosity for exploration. I have a particular passion for plein air painting, whether in my own garden or along the picturesque coastline of the Danish Baltic Sea. Over the years, I have honed a technique that allows me to complete large-scale canvases outdoors in a single session, capturing the distinct mood of each day. The ever-changing weather and shifting light significantly influence my creative process, sometimes requiring me to adjust my pace. Other series are developed in the studio, including macro studies of beaches and portrayals of people and animals in natural settings. In my abstract work, everyday experiences serve as the foundation. I utilize a variety of mediums, including oil on canvas or wood, pen and ink wash drawings, and watercolors.
