Marco Sassone has embraced international acclaim as a painter and visionary for over fifty years. His exhibitions have been featured extensively in the U.S. and abroad, and his work is included in some of the most prominent art collections in the world. As a contemporary artist now residing in Toronto, Sassone’s remarkable career has fuelled the inspiration for his first literary endeavour entitled American Journey, an autobiographical memoir honouring his core passion as an artist. Born in Florence in 1942, Sassone developed his artistic skills at a very young age. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts with Professor Silvio Loffredo, who was himself a student of the Austrian master, Oskar Kokoschka. In 1967, soon after The Great Flood of Florence had devastated his city, Sassone moved to California to launch his professional career. He has remained active in the art community through lectures at notable universities and art associations. Numerous catalogues and books have been published about his work, including the volume Sassone (1979), written by art historian Donelson Hoopes. He has been featured in countless publications, radio and television broadcasts, and collaborated on two documentary films about his life and art. Among other honours and awards, Marco Sassone was knighted into the “Order of the Merit of the Italian Republic” in 1982.
