ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The word "Trample," which means to step on or crush, and the representative name for a play equipment enjoyed by jumping while stepping on it, called "Trampoline," sound similar at first. Experiences that felt like being trampled in relationships or situations were incredibly painful at the time. However, I worked with admiration for the strength to overcome those experiences, trample on them, and confidently bounce up to a higher stage, welcoming a new version of myself. Using the burgundy color produced when the bright red rose begins to wither as the main hue, I also attached dried rose petals that I personally pressed, ground, and tore in the middle. I hope that the energy created by sadness and darkness ultimately becomes the driving force that lifts me up.

HANNAH.K is an abstract artist based in Seoul and New York. Her abstractions harmonize at the interplay of unstructured certain shapes, color, and lines in the spaces that shape her uncategorized thoughts. "We may want to shake it off, but at times, we simply grow weary and turn away. In doing so, the emotions pile up quietly in our hearts. My work begins with the contemplation of whether I should forget about my accumulated emotions and thoughts, left neglected. I aim to express the elusive and difficult-to-articulate emotions that everyone has felt at least once in their lives. Existence is tangible, yet intangible, and I attempt to convey the essence of these indescribable emotions through my art. I think there's a possibility of empathy when someone realizes that they share similar feelings with me. The motivation behind my artistic endeavors lies in the moments when I confront my emotions or the extension of thoughts conveyed by nature. Starting from observation and extending to a primal movement in the heart, I hope these fundamental motions are transmitted to the audience through my works. Certainly, emotions and thoughts can be expressed through language and body language. However, describing accurately every emotion with the right words or sentences is not always easy. Since using conventional words may not be sufficient, I prefer expressing emotions through intuitive drawings. Therefore, I draw abstractions that can express one’s thoughts and feelings through the harmony of shapes and colors. I hope that the audience can empathize with my drawings, which partially visualize intangible existence,  and that this empathy leads to comfort and genuine connection."
