Travelling in Arcadia 9 Painting

In the serie, « Travelling in Arcadia », I think - through the prism of Mircea Eliade’s essays- of the myth of the Golden Age, which characterizes the beginning and the end of history following various traditions . I am also inspired by the myths about the primordial closeness between sky and earth that are particularly widespread in Oceania and south-east Asia, which convey a matriarchal ideology, as well as the myth of the Axis Mundi – mountain, tree and liana – linking the earth to the sky. Do my landscapes evoke a return to the origins, a past world or a future one or both if one considers time as cyclical? Has Homo Sapiens beings – known for their lack of wisdom – disappeared or are they yet to come In the middle of ruins colonized by vegetation, I stage evolved hominids – Lucy’s distant cousins ? My characters belong to the species Homo but one that is still unknown. I call them Homo Felix. They prize gentleness, watching the landscape, dancing, playing and bathing. This is the reign of peace and harmony between them and with animals. I see them with a great hairiness but without systematism. They are the archétypes of bliss and spontaneity enjoyed by the first mythical human or the last mythical human We don’t know what is happening beyond the mountains but don’t you think that here, it reigns in this world, surrounded by high mountains, an atmosphere of golden age, very quiet, harmonious, idéal ?.an utopia ? This painting was started during the sanitary confinement at home. So I choosed very natural medium : pigments, arabic gum, honey, wax ; It’s wooden, and the edge of the painting is 3, 5cm wide so you can put it on a shelf or in a bookshelf.
