About The Artwork

Tree With Spanish Moss (Marshlands Plein Air Series) 30" x 48" x 1.5" gallery wrap edges painted black, D-Ring option wired for hanging, signed and gallery stamped for authenticity at Word Revolt Art Gallery, my studio in Atlantic Beach, FL. This item ships in a crate, with all SaatchiArt procedures for safe handling. The inspiration for this painting & series: All of the work from my Marshlands Plein Air series began outdoors in some capacity, weather the painting was started outdoors or the studies for it were completed on site. This painting was inspired by a particular spot, a little area of the salt marsh where the tide comes in every day to sweep the grasses in a directional pull until they are almost thick and woven like a basket. This scene has a certain amount of angst with an impending storm. Spanish Moss typical to the area is draped across the tree branches. With the storm surges each year, the sand oaks all meet this same beautiful fate, as their proximity to the water that made them grow eventually leads them to be consumed by the tide. Nostalgia is a running thread in this series, as the allure of the sea is something that can never match our idealization compared to it's reality. The painting features a thick impasto of oil paint, especially in the areas of the grass and the hanging moss, with the use of a palette knife to move the color across in deep layers. I have been painting this park for some time, it looks different in all seasons. This painting features rich golds, emerald greens and cerulean / indigo shades. Recommended framing: It is not necessary to frame this work, the edges are painted black. A custom frame that compliments your room decor would enhance the painting and your surroundings. Though my paintings sell around the world, as an art lover I encourage you to develop a relationship with your local framer to support their craft in your city. Let me know if I can give you a recommendation for a framer or framing company online.

Celebrated for her style of bold impasto landscapes and occasional figurative works, Theresa’s artwork transfixes the viewer through a dynamic sense of color and atmosphere that explores what it means to connect to nature during our highly saturated digital age. Theresa Rykaczewski is an American painter and non-profit gallery director in Atlantic Beach, Florida at Word Revolt Art Gallery and Adjunct Faculty of Visual Art at Jacksonville University. Her latest series, “Vibrant Forest,” depicts various local and subtropical parks with inspiration drawn from virtual reality and Impressionism. The work seeks to find a balance between mixed desires for real utopian escapes in nature versus the digital preference for luminous hyper color. Previous series explore similar theoretical threads with the addition of figures and objects lost in nostalgia within the atmospheric marsh landscape, objects that are signifiers of history and changes in work and play over time. Theresa’s father, a botanical scientist, instilled her with a deep respect for nature, with a librarian mother from Cajun Louisiana who encouraged her to explore her French roots and follow the passion of Impressionist style painting, the landscape emerged as a formative influence for Theresa, who grew up St. Louis enjoying lush forest hiking trails with family and friends. Theresa Rykaczewski holds a BFA degree from the University of Missouri St. Louis with honors and a minor in art history as well as an MFA from Jacksonville University in painting, graduating as a member of Phi Kappa Phi. She has been painting and teaching art classes for the last ten years including community based and professional skills workshops, university and museum lectures. She specializes in traditional oil and impasto techniques for landscape and figurative work. Theresa has exhibited in over 40 juried exhibitions and curated over 25 exhibitions of artwork nationally, with private and corporate collections and a long record of sales, events and publications with a penchant for contemporary art, history and cultivating a vibrant arts community.
