This piece was created during what will be the worlds historical year of 2020. A time in which I was furloughed (a covid crisis payment scheme in the UK) from my work back stage in theatre, allowing even more time to explore a new body of work in the art studio, pending and exhibition of 2020 pieces next spring in Camden. My works can vary in figuration, but I aways use the human form, albeit sometimes reconstructed in my way. I like to make work that keeps a viewer looking and I direct and edit the colour, paint, compositions in order to give fluidity, rythm, contrast and movement. Like a performance. Like moving shadows. Things appearing from a deep sea. I work with the paint to achieve this honestly, often music is with me in the studiospace. I suppose I am subconsciously influenced by a miraid of human experience. Theatre. Film. Music. Fashion. And a lifetime of both difficult and fascinating human experiences. High contrasts. I work until the piece has an alive energy. This as many artists/painters will tell you is the gamble. Its a balance of letting the subconscious take over to achieve a kind of truth, but also have an element of practical control. I love this piece's vibrancy. It has been transformed from its original appearance at the beginning of the year throughout 2020. It has now been vanished and is a deep streched canvas unframed.

Canadian-born Jennifer Mills moved to London aged 3 where she still resides and works. She has spent her life pursuing many creative passions. At 17 she pursued full time studies in dance, but returned to her first love of painting, securing a place at Central St. Martins School of Art where she trained under London Group Artist Mike Thorpe. Jennifer often uses film, music and particular images that resonate with her whilst she is painting. Her work is evocative and passionate and is constantly evolving. Painting humans using figurative expressionism and/or her style of portraiture. The paint/colour is sculpted on the surface. She is interested in the presence they evoke in an unspecified space. How they represent deep sensibilities and the human state. Her figures grow out of a dialogue with the paint. The illustrative turns into sensation using autobiographical influences.
