Lucas Ruiz Born into a family of artists where creation is a living tradition, Lucas Ruiz grew up surrounded by brushes, pencils, and the scent of the studio. His grandfather, a passionate artist, was his first and greatest source of inspiration: he instilled in him early on a love for precise gesture, attentive observation, and boundless exploration of form. It was his grandfather who placed a brush or pencil in his hand as a child, sparking a vocation that has never left him. From his teenage years, Lucas Ruiz attended evening classes at the Beaux-Arts de Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, a legendary place that allowed him to sharpen his eye and technique. He later earned his diploma from the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs Estienne (ENSAD-Estienne), where he refined his mastery of drawing while exploring painting and sculpture. As a painter, Lucas Ruiz cultivates a deeply Impressionist style in which the free and spontaneous gesture lies at the heart of his practice. Passionate about pictorial matter, he applies oil or acrylic with thick, visible, and vibrant strokes to capture fleeting light, shifting colors, and the living texture of everyday objects. Influenced by masters such as Monet, whose dissolution of form into light he admires, and Van Gogh, whose expressive and emotionally charged gesture deeply moves him, he seeks to translate the present moment: the way light caresses a surface, reveals an imperfection, or transforms a simple motif into visual poetry. His still lifes, landscapes, and portraits celebrate the beauty of the ephemeral and the everyday—ripe fruits, fresh vegetables, domestic scenes—through a warm palette, subtle contrasts, and generous matter that gives relief and life to the canvas. Each painting is a celebration of gesture: impulsive, joyful, sometimes tormented, always authentic. Lucas Ruiz has exhibited regularly for many years: at Galerie DDC in Paris, Bratislava, and Japan; in various contemporary art fairs; and more recently at the Jeune Création exhibition in Paris and Marseille. Welcome to the luminous and tactile world of his Impressionist paintings.
