ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Due Satiri is a painting on oil on wood (76x66 cm) made between 1618 and 1619 by the painter Pieter Paul Rubens. It is kept in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich. Many of his works made people speak of Rubens Syndrome for their ability to unleash erotic impulses in those who observe them. The classical and mythological themes were the best for the artists and perhaps also the only way to overcome the expressive limits imposed by the severe censory laws of the time and thus give free rein to their inspiration.
