Lex Ubbink lives in the Netherlands, and has been painting since the year 2000. He has followed various painting courses in this context, including at the Gooise Academy for Visual Arts in Laren, but his own style is mainly self-taught. Lex paints with oil paint on linen, and in his creations he is always looking for the perfect balance in color and composition. Inspired by 'De Stijl' artists and the colors 'red yellow blue', many works by Lex Ubbink can be described as geometric figurative, in which he wants to give everyday subjects maximum visual power through minimal composition and color scheme. A bicycle, a windmill, a cat or a boat. Can primary use of form and color strengthen the visual power of the subject, or give it a new recognition? The pursuit of the perfect balance in composition and color is paramount in the creation and in the result. Aesthetics is the motivation and the goal. In 2009 he created his "LOVE" series, in which the letters L O V E transform to primary forms: rectangle (L), circle (O), triangle (V) and square (E), one and another in the primary colors 'Red, Yellow and Blue'. The series consists of several works (oil on canvas). At the end of 2012 2 paintings were completed "Windmill in Red Yellow Blue" and "Typical Dutch Windmill". Based on his LOVE series he created between 2010 and 2013 a NUDES series, in which the primary forms in primary colours were combined with the contour lines of nudes. Between 2010 and 2016 a lot of pixel art paintings were created, based on iconic pictures (like New York, and like Girl with Pearl Earring) and iconic celebrities. Based on his LOVE Series (oil paintings) Lex Ubbink designed and developed the 'LOVE Art Chair' in 2016/2017, which combines primary forms (the square, the rectangle, the circle and the triangle) with primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and which appeals to one of our primary feelings: LOVE! In 2021-2024 the Velo Mondrian series, The Style Boat series, and the Dog & Cat work was created, all inspired by the primary colors red yellow blue and The Stijl artists (The Style). Expositions (group): "Signs all over" September 4 - October 3, 2010 About graphics, language, signs and symbols. Hilversum, The Netherlands, ISM gallery, organised by the Magdalena Foundation. -Gallery Kunst by Karel, Blaricum, September - November 2024: "Inspired by Red Yellow Blue".
