ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Under the Sea is a unique abstract expressionism painting with impressionist elements that capture the interaction of ocean life. The painting features mangroves, seaweed, and a coral reef that's highly textured (painted in my impasto pointillism style with thick oil paint; I call this "Paintillism"). There are underwater plants moving around the painting, giving the illusion that the coral reef is alive. The colour scheme consists of a dark green hue coupled with red, yellow, and white oil paint. Silver spray paint gives the water an illuminating sheen that makes it appear that light is shining through it. My name is Alexandra Romano, I am an artist living and working in Toronto, Canada.
