This page of a magazine was reworked with oil painting, charcoal pencil and pink spray paint. In the original photo, the viewer is placed in the position of the interviewed, a French political figure before a major press conference. A spontaneous abstract composition in black, white and pink emerges from the marks scrambling the most identifiable elements of the photograph (hand of the protagonist, faces of the crowd, magazine headline). This piece is part of an on-going series made on pages from 1950's and 1960's magazines, which have a compelling matte and tactile paper quality to work with, as well as historical substance. The encounter between the pre-existing printed content and my own process can be approached as both a conflict and a dialogue, between printed and handmade, past and present, public and private etc.

Born in 1983. Paris, France. I work automatically, letting the subject and clues emerge from spontaneous action on the surface. This approach results in a succession of free-form works which, ranging from postcard size to human scale, constitute as a whole a path of self-exploration. A combination of paint, drawing, marks, collage of printed images, my work often plays on the tension between abstraction and figuration, and primarily rests on the materiality of the picture, as the main way to connect to the viewer's body and feeling.
