VULCAN Painting

Painting: Oil on Canvas 59x59 inch. (150x150 cm) Most of the paintings from my Vulcan series are black and very thick and I use only oil. ( I don´t use any other material for fillings) Influence from Vulcan, heart chakra of the Sun - series. I am from Iceland, land of fire and ice, with black beaches and black LAVA all around in our nature. My paintings deeply reflect where my inspiration comes from, my roots, Icelandic nature. A Mystical Impression. Laufey was born in Reykjavik, Iceland in 1968 and has been painting since 1994. Her black paintings are made in an extreme physical manner. In the process she obsessively piles thick paint on to the already thinly painted canvas in a very spontaneous way, sometimes heavy or light, fast or slow, smooth or harsh. Although being impulsive in her painting method the result is always some sort of unpredictable ornament pattern of thick paint on a smooth surface. Laufey uses black that is the sum of all colors to paint the unseen energy of the unknown and capture the vast spirit of being that runs through us all.
