Food shortage in Venezuela due to bad government policies. The proven oil reserves in Venezuela are recognized as the largest in the world, totaling 297 billion barrels (4.721010 m3) as of 1 January 2014.But...... Venezuelas Food Shortages Trigger Long Lines, Hunger and Looting. Venezuelans wait for hours in long supermarket lines for basics like milk and rice. Shortages have made hunger a palpable concern for many. Whats certain is that we are going very hungry here and the children are suffering a lot, said Maria Palma, a 55-year-old grandmother who on a recent blistering hot day had been standing in line at the grocery store since 3 a.m. before walking away empty-handed at midday. President Maduros government has faced ongoing protests and civil unrest since the beginning of 2014. There are growing signs that Maduros support in the region is dwindling, as neighboring countries have expressed concern about his governments response to the crisis, including the aggressive treatment of protesters. Venezuelas opposition is set to gain control of congress for the first time in 16 years in a Dec. 6 vote seen as the biggest test yet for the Socialist government of President Nicolas Maduro.
