MÖRI was born in Paris in 1942, the son of a Swiss father and a French mother. After graduating from a business school, he had a parallel career as both an artist and an advertising designer. As a teenager he lived in a village near Auvers-sur-Oise, in the “valley of the impressionists” among the landscapes of Van Gogh, Pissarro, Derain, etc. He soon began to paint, sharing the environment of several important contemporary artists. Attracted to abstract art, his first years as a painter were devoted to working non-figurative and calligraphic canvases, and he was particularly influenced by Hartung and Mathieu. But that it is now a long time ago. In the 1980s, after an in-depth study of contemporary art, he decided to turn towards figurative expression under the double influence of the French Fauvists (Matisse, Derain, Marquet, etc.) and the German “Kolorist” Expressionists (Macke, Kirchner, Schmidt-Rotluff, Nolde…). Alternately optimistic and solemn, he simplifies to a maximum degree, and tries to go for what is essential. He abolishes perspectives, he deconstructs, reverses proportions, upsets lines, and plays mischievously with colours. In short, he creates a chimerical, fanciful vision of a recomposed world, accessible to those who are able to imagine, dream, and ask questions. After years of working on landscapes and still-lifes, today he is focusing on ‘scenographies’ that summarize characters, behaviour, and situations. An increasing number of admirers and collectors are now accompanying MÖRI in his work and his quests.
