Artist Tanja Makuc was born in Slovenia 24.07.1979, Šempeter pri Novi Gorici. raised on an orchard farm where the Mediterranean climate gave her family plenty of grapes, fruit, and olive oil, that was the first impact for her early age, instilling love for nature, and strong European character. As a child she was different, all the time drawing and covered with paint. After primary and high school she definitely knew what to do in her life, being g an artist to paint. In year 2002 she was excepted on Fine Arts in Ljubljana, the capitol of Slovenia. Professors were very happy with her work, showing big talent in drawing, graphic and painting classes, she achieved very strong marks. Her professor noticed her strong lines in portraits and body language, lots of expressions and character. Manny times showing her work to students from higher classes. In year 2007 she completed her Masters degree on Ljubljana Fine Arts university, the mentor was Prof. Herman Gvardjančič. The subject was “Betwen line and colour”, she made a series of 7 paintings, where she captured the cycle of life and death. The theme was unborn babies in there mothers wombs, all made in oil technique, where the line had a strong factor. Line was, and still is very important for this artist. As every artist also Tanja Makuc was trying to expose her art, usually in Ljubljana city, and her own area Goriška Brda. In the year 2012 she met her husband today, Oliver Dench. After visiting New Zealand Aotearoa couple of times, she decided to move here. She fell in love with its magical country side, vegetation, rich Māori cultures and of course colorful birds. New Zealand native birds made a big change and revolution in her art, specially naughty Pukekos, Fantails, Tui birds, Kia, Kiwis, Kingfisher, and others. She was painting a storybetween funny naughty birds driving old cars and caravans from 60s. On the canvas you would see Pukekos driving with sea gulls or Pukekos driving a car or old Russian motorbikes, Pukekos laying eggs, sea gulls trying too still them,….etc. Techniques she was used for this massive sized paintings was shellac, charcoal, oils, oil pastels. She was playing between drawing and painting techniques. In lastest paintings artist is inspired bye human body, nudity and psychology of humans. Dramatic expressions in portraits and strong gestures, lines are her attributes.
