ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The work is a part of the "Dead Icarus" project. The old woman figure is quite a familiar character in the everyday life of the Romanians: you could see her as a beggar in the city and also as a common respectable village grandmother. I also see her as a vulnerable Mary by her son's cross, the patient witness to the errors and success of the contemporary young man in a less developed country, she is the feminine protective and creative energy as a source of hope. The animals are metaphoric apparitions, resembling old fable characters.
