We Contain Multitudes Painting

Where lava is swallowed by the sea. This painting was inspired by these forces of nature colliding. The sea breaks the path of destruction created by the lava exploding from the earth. A minimalist approach was taken to create focus. I aimed to convey the calming and immense presence of the sea whilst still holding space for the disruptive nature of the lava. As in life, these two opposites can learn to live in harmony. The texture of the underpainting provides an additional opposing element, the deep lines of rain pouring from the storm clouds. This third element introduces complexities and represents the chaos of our lives and the enormous capacity humans have to overcome and accept.
