What I didn't do Painting

This belongs to my "Effacement" series, where I put striated strokes on top of a painting to simultaneously add a layer and partially hide the underlying layers. I had worked a long time on the yellow borders of the rounded shapes, using cadmium yellow gouache so it would ride on top of the somewhat dark colors underneath. In November 2019, a few months after doing "Blue effacement," I added the blue lines and stumbled on the progression from dark to light blue and from solid to transparent lines. I had all sorts of plans in addition, but eventually realized it was already enough. I was struck by all the things I didn't do to the painting, hence the title.
