his is a fragment of the text from the exhibition at the Trzecie Oko Gallery. The exhibition “In the circle of tea” The way of tea, cleared by one of the greatest masters, Sen no Rikyū, has been existing unchanged since the 16th century. How is it possible that this centuries-old tradition, defined so long down to the last detail, fascinates the audience of the 21st century? Well, not only tea lovers or fans of Japanese culture, but also us, the artists. The tea ceremony is a way of life, a constant search for harmony, striving to achieve peace of mind and pure spirit The way itself matters more than the achievement of the goal. It is also the pleasure of communing with this unique atmosphere, with beautiful accessories (often pieces of art) in elegant rooms covered with Japanese mats tatami. It is a way to get away from everyday problems and mundane matters. Japanese who are involved in the world of tea ceremony wish to maintain the tradition and save it from oblivion... Written by Małgorzata Olejniczak. More about the exhibition: We are artists and we share a great passion for tea. The historical context of the tea ceremony awakened in us the spirit of expression and sharing our artistic invention. We create our works with ink and watercolor. We live in different countries and have different visions of this topic. What do we bring? An, painting artistry, a multitude of techniques and the intensity of sensations. Margot, the minimalism and the highest skills in using a brush in the Japanese art of sumi-e. Justyna expresses the power of the moment in an intuitive and deeply thought-out gesture painting. The main question I am asking myself today is: Is ecological coexistence of man with others and with nature possible? And if so, how should we work on it? How do we practise it, and how do we talk about it? so that we can pass on this knowledge and experience to others? I feel an almost obsessive need to be outdoors. I create impressionistic, colourful notes in sketchbooks, photographs, field recordings. For me, the outdoors means being in nature with my whole self, with all my senses. I use photographs, but I also need to get my senses and brain to concentrate and remember what I have seen, heard and felt. The image that is later created has a record of time, place, time of day and time of year, it carries emotions, reflections, presence, history and memory. In an era of crisis and climate change, landscape painting, especially plein air and field recording, is changing its context. I feel that this is my homage to the beauty of nature and it has its reverse and that is the spectre of doom. Internally I am working on the task of accommodating and elevating these two realities within myself. The most important task is not to close my eyes, ears and heart. To feel and reflect, withstanding the tension.
