About The Artwork

In my theatrical practice, as a set designer, I was fortunate enough to work on many historical performances. One of these works was a performance about the hetman of Ukraine Ivan Mazep. It was interesting how Mazepa was in life, as a person. On the pages of historical opuses and literary works, this is an interesting image. To present this image in the play, I wanted to find something romantic and beautiful in his life. I know that Ivan Mazepa was in love with some beautiful girl and memories of her accompanied him all his life, until he was old. I wanted this female image to be present in the play. The painting "White Maiden" was written by me under the impression of what I read about the hetman of Ukraine Mazepa and his life. The work was done in oil painting technique on canvas, in 1998.

Iryna Lupashchenko is a contemporary stage designer and artist. Many of her works are an exciting journey into the world of theatre and stage. For over twenty years, she has been working on the world literature classics. She has created set design and costumes for more than a hundred plays, along with five hundred paintings and drawings. The artist aspires to feel the drama through her inherently natural view and create an emotional and wholesome artistic imagery of the future performance while staying true to the artistic value of laconism. Iryna Lupashchenko`s paintings are deeply symbolic. Each work tells a story that strikes a nerve and never leaves the audience indifferent. Figurative portraits of the mysterious Harlequins, many-faced actors and delicate travesties present spectators insides of the theatre and reveal the world behind curtains. Iryna dreams about showing her art to the entire world so that it can bring joy to as many people as possible. Her paintings and drawings can be found in private collections across Germany, Poland, Ukraine and Russia.
