About The Artwork

These paintings contemplate questions that assail most of us about life, what it means and why we live and the space we occupy in time. It is hoped these works will engender reflection. Our human experiences are universal but our responses always remain personal.

My work explores the human condition socially, collectively and spiritually. I am fascinated by myth and legend which tends to suggest a collective consciousness. My research includes a lot of reading. Initially I read a broad overview then specifically. I draw and draw and draw then abstract until the image conveys my intent. I always paint from one of my drawings, once the brush is my hand, I intuitively choose the palette. My marks are sometimes heavily impasto and sometimes minimalistic. Like most artists I enter my own world and my dialogue with the painting is intense and passionate until completed. My studio is in my back garden, many times I work outside, so I am not confined. More often than not, I paint to classical or ethnic music. My solo exhibition Christos engendered emotional response and to my surprise more men cried than women I am very influenced by the Abstract Expressionists. Kathleen won a Fine Arts Committee Award-Highly Commended 2006 and an Award for Academic Excellence 2008 from Griffith University. In 2011 she held a solo exhibition at St. John Boscoe Catholic Church Kenilworth. The exhibition entitled Christos ran concurrently with the Kenilworth Celebrates festival. She has also exhibited a body of works entitled To Believe at the Ormiston Meditation Centre in 2012.
