Beauty inspired this work, that is what grabs my attention and gets me motivated to paint - beauty. This word may seem trite or meaningless hard to define but it is a word that invokes the intensely felt and expereinced relationship that I have with flowers. I have longterm relationships with the flowers I paint. I find it enjoyable to follow organic flower forms and shapes and I hope that viewers will also feel and think about the beauty of flowers in the natural world. I am always struck by how flowers retain beauty in their form even when they are old and have lost the full depth of their colour. They become sculptural. I enjoy that process.

Biography I was born in East London to an Austrian father and English mother. I am something of a nomad and have lived and worked in Ireland and France and several different regions of the UK. I currently work from my studio in Suffolk the land of big skys, magical landscapes and expansive coast. The main focus of my recent work is intimate studies of flowers. My daily practice includes drawing in the landscape while out walking. I spend many hours in the Suffolk countryside under the big sky which gives a lot of energy when the gossamer veil of dusk descends. This stillness provides creative energy that I carry to the studio. Movement – the dance of making marks is central to my creative process. My work aims unashamedly at beauty but also the cryptic ‘what if, what is’ that comes from play and investigation. Some works are highly decorative some reflective and melancholic. Whatever the output I am not afraid of showing the sensual and joyful struggle that I have with paint, how as a painter I am in a relationship with paint as well as the subject. The paint always strives to be dominant demanding that it sits in thick layers and occupies the main fanfare of the image. I work mainly in oil but also make photographic studies. I have works in private collections in UK, France, Ireland and USA.
