José Iván Barroso Riquer was born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. He is a self-taught artist with an academic background in engineering and a growing presence in the contemporary art network. From an early age, he developed a deep passion for fine art, using painting as a medium to express his ideas, imagination, and personal vision. His work is strongly influenced by the dramatic techniques of the Old Masters such as Caravaggio, Rembrandt, and Goya. Drawing inspiration from horror, science fiction, and literature, Barroso Riquer explores themes of tension, mystery, and the darker aspects of human experience. Through the use of strong contrasts of light and shadow, his paintings seek to evoke the dramatic intensity and tenebrism characteristic of classical Baroque painting while incorporating contemporary narrative elements.
