This work was displayed in a curated exhibition July 2017 by Jurror Jeniffer Casler Price , curator of the Kimbell Asian and non western Art Museum. It is a great honor to have been chosen and a mark towards my bigger dreams of creating images that represent a peaceful and connected global world.
This particular painting is a portrait of a woman from Yemen. Woman here cannot marry without the permission of their male guardians. They do not have equal rights to divorce, inheritance or child custody and lack protection that leaves them exposed to domestic and sexual violence. Yemen has a high levels of child marriage with girls as young as eight forced to be married. This work represents an identity issue extremism. Although it's important to remember that abuse towards woman (sexual, verbal, emotional and physical) happens to the most successful, unveiled and confident women as well. We must work together to heal this issue and bring consciousness to a new level by being a voice for those who cannot speak.
