ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I explore permeability by separating and merging abstract shapes. As one form dominates, its composite elements bind it to its surroundings. I test the cohesion of these forms by laying them across grids, imposing veils of color, and adding collage elements. The disruptions define and obscure the forms. The forms are holes in the surface of the painting, but also project forward as objects. They reveal the energetic underpinning of the painting while claiming their own space, structures, and identities. Symbolically, each one is simultaneously a stylized object in the world and a window onto something undifferentiated, vast, and ineffable.

I am a painter living and working in Brooklyn, NY. I was born in London, grew up in New York City, and developed a love for rocks and trees during summers spent in Montana. I studied painting at the Stacy Studio Workshop in Manhattan with painter Donald Stacy and have been a resident artist at the Vermont Studio Center, the Post Contemporary, and the Butte-Silver Bow Arts Foundation. My work has been shown at the Hammond Museum, Garrison Art Center, Columbia University’s Macy Gallery, and in group shows in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
