THE END OF THIS DECADE BELONGS TO THE SCULPTURE !Here you will find unusual position of art from the North-east part of Germany, that is inspired by a strong landscape, alchemy and a philosopy that deals with the unity. Each artwork is a step towards this unity. In this short presentation it is not possible to show all diffrent aspects of my work, like wood, landart, installation, works with and on paper, books, and so on so I choosed the aspect that gives a first impression of my stoneworks. To see more, I invite you to pay a visit to my webside. Rainer Fest key element off many of his works is running water. As a flowing prime element and symbol of life, water runs over a throne sculpture or washes around a house, thereby questioning and jeopardising ist firm stand. The water adds elements of movement and light to the sculpture. With water continuously working and permanently changing the stone, another paradigm enters the work and working method. The static nature of the stones is disturbed by movement i.e. time passing by in a perceivable manner -, while light reflected by the water changes their surfaces, and thus the way the sculpture is seen. Also, the water gives back sound to the otherwise mute stone.Stone, water, light, sound and archaic architectural forms are the basis of Rainer Fests sculptural work. In his works, nature and culture merge into a unity which does not deny, however, the far-reaching differences between both areas. The artist stands in the circle his work has described. He is the centre of his world. Edmond Jabes comment on physical objects is true both of him and his works:Everything is connected to everything. Each thing has ist counterpart. Man the faith of man; war the feast, the dance of the insect the unmoving stone. The rule of the play is the rule of the universe. (2)Feter FunkenRainer Fest The hard is overcomeA stone like the tableau of a mountain with a small hut in the middle of a watercourse. This may be an apt description of one of Rainer Fests fountains, or rather water sculptures, if merely viewed on a scale-distorting photograph. When facing the object itself, the view becomes more abstract: a roughly chiselled, light matte stone surface with shining, smooth and polished one-piece elements, whose one side seems to be negative, a hole, while the other side appears as a positive, three-dimensional element, with both sides being linked by the water springing forth from the stone and slowly running over the surface.
