About The Artwork

oil on linen actually How is meaning apprehended or imparted without legible signifiers, symbols or surrogates for real people, places and things? is meaning created out of nothing or must it be found where it already exists? Is a field of energy translatable as language? Can this field of energy impart meaning in terms of its physical form rather than its content? How does context change the apprehension of meaning? Should a work of art always be accompanied by an explicative text? What is the cultural, social or psychological difference between a viewer who needs an accompanying text and one who doesn't and will not read it even if it is posted? How do we perceive the presence of meaning if it is hidden? Rather, how do we perceive that which invisible or unavailable to the eye and optic nerves which convey visual stimuli? How does retinal disparity work? Did we ask for 2 eyes and binocular vision to be combined into one? One what? Image? Reality forged by sight and cascade of assumptions forming an agreed upon fiction built and restructured by the Auto Cad of our brains? Back to the "Did we ask for 2 eyes..." question, why were we born with these particular physical traits and biological mechanisms? Why does the phrase, "meat puppets" spring to mind? Are our bodies minions to our minds and (I know see you this coming) what is the mind? Not just the hemispheric brain surely? A composite of thought and feeling? Need we drag the heart into this inquiry? We know the heart is a pump not a generative source for feeling so why do we site the heart with this onus? Speaking of blood, what does any of this have to do with this painting? Why Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow with an abstract painting? What is abstract? Can we still assign the term abstract to an image if we detect the presence of recognizable form? Should I reorganize that sentence, "Can we still assign the term abstract to an image if we recognize the presence of non abstract form? Pardon my French but the fuck exists in thought or as an idea while not having a physical or concrete existence? You're going to say concepts like love and beauty, aren't you? Which reminds me what is the "4th wall" and how did I just break it? Have I lost you? Can I reach you? Why am I whispering suddenly? If I pronounce read in the past tense "read" do you see the color red? Even just for a fleeting moment do you see red? If I say wow the clown president had a chance at humility, unity or whatever but "he blew it" do you see blue? Because I'm seeing red over here, you know what I mean?
