Born in Enfield in 1960 I Mark Johansen as a life time dyslexic has always found communication and the written language presented me with challenges. However art and painting has a language of its own. For me Painting has opened up a world that before I had only glimpsed, I can now communicate without fear or limitation. In this new world of mine I can see that my life and work have improved enormously as a direct result. My work is varied and diverse. For me the very act of creation is an exploration of oneself and making Art is the essence of humanity. Painting allows me to communicate ideas, thoughts and concepts in ways I had previously not perceived. I am fascinated by the contradictions that life throws up before us. My art reflects this by drawing together and exploring different themes, painting styles and colours within the same painting. Each Painting is explored individually and my paintings being mostly abstract, or semi-abstract and modern in nature use strong colours, shape, texture and form. They convey the deeper meanings that observations of reality can reveal.
