ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Callisto (meaning "most beautiful") was a Greek handmaiden of Artemis who attracted the passionate attention of Zeus. *Somebody* turned her into a bear. Hmmmm. The details of that transformation are a little fuzzy and lost in the mists - was it retribution from Artemis? Hera, Zeus's jealous wife? Or Zeus himself, protecting Callisto from these vengeful women? In any case, Callisto and her son with Zeus (Arcas) became constellations and live forevermore in the night sky as the Big Dipper and Little Dipper. This original ink painting is signed and dated on the front.

Los Angeles-based painter Kim Kimbro creates psychologically charged animal portraiture that is characterized by bold color combinations and sensitively rendered subjects. Stylistically, Kimbro operates somewhere between the real and the unreal, creating an atmosphere that invites personal introspection. Her concern is to convey the frailty of human experience within these often life-sized portraits. Kim Kimbro received a BFA from the Parsons School of Design/New School for Social Research in New York, and has been exhibiting since 2007.
