Based on a poem of Erich Fried an open series of large-scaled paintings,
using mixed techniques, arose.
“It is what it is” is a statement, which stands for pure painting and
the free expression in art without imposing an interpretation on the
viewer.
It addresses the individual and autonomous opinion of the viewer
which is taken seriously and with respect.
By bringing in his own experiences, the viewer starts to think about
and interpret what he sees. He immerses into the painting and
makes it his own, by going through this process.
Through the individual perceptions and interpretations, the painting
is getting “duplicated”. Even the same person can get to different
results and interpretations over time. The change of the emotional
affection by a painting can be triggered by a changing state of mind
or new experiences in life. I get such feedback about the impact of
my paintings from people, who live with them.
To talk about my paintings with these people, often opens new perspectives
on my artwork for myself. It inspires me and gives me
new impulses. A dialog is created, which effects my future work and
is closing the interdependent circle of artist, painting and viewer.
