Born in 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland, David taught art for many years. His hobbies are reading and playing guitar. Throughout the last thirty years, although he has painted still life and figure, landscape has been his passion, his influences being the French Impressionists, particularly Monet and Sisley, and the Scottish Colourists, particularly Peploe, all of which add a rich painterly quality to his work, and a feeling for light. He has painted in gouache, pastel and acrylic, but his first love was oils and he has returned to using these recently, using fast drying alkyd paints which give all the rich butteryness of traditional oil paint, but dry in less than a day. My Philosophy of Art is very simple; there is enough pain, suffering and ugliness in the world without me adding to it. I want to show something of the beauty that is in the world, and bring some pleasure into the lives of those who see my paintings. The influence on my work through artists such as Monet, Sisley and Peploe, can be summed up in one word - LIGHT. My painting may change and develop as time goes on, but it will always be about light, colour and atmosphere, and, I hope, giving pleasure to those who see it.
