I strive for my work to express structure, form and space. To use the most simplified, the most generalized form of an object and regroup in infinite space. To give form to blank spaces on the canvas and convey abundant meaning from minimal brushstroke.     I use traditional Chinese calligraphy materials - ink, brush and rice paper – and techniques for starting and ending each stroke, thickening or tempering the ink. I take the remaining exposed rice paper and play with the natural tonal variations of the paper. To me, these spaces are the presence of form rather than the absence of ink. I paint as to play and let the painting guide me towards what it wants to be.   My approach combines the aesthetic of Chinese calligraphy aesthetic with modern Western techniques and concepts. As I have existed between China, Germany, and now America, my work builds on my training and my experiences across cultures and becomes something more: a unique form of expression which draws on these influences to create something new.
